Percy Jackson and The Olympians is a beloved young adult series. The books were all great and have expanded with several spin-offs and sequel series. However, the live-action movies were not very good. Thankfully, a new adaptation of the series is being worked at Disney+.
This new adaptation of Percy Jackson has been very exciting to follow. Development on the series was pretty slow but a few months ago it really kicked into high gear when Walker Scobell was cast as Percy Jackson. Then, shortly after that Leah Sava Jeffries was cast as Annabeth and Aryan Simhadri was cast as Grover. And today we have learned way more about the show so let’s dive into it.
Percy Jackson And The Olympians Starts Production
On Twitter, Disney+ confirmed that Percy Jackson and The Olympians has started production today. You can see the tweet below.
Meanwhile, Variety has also reported that the Percy Jackson series has added five new cast members. Firstly, Jason Mantzoukas is playing Mr. D aka Dionysus. Dionysus runs Camp Half-Blood. Secondly, Megan Mullally is playing Mrs. Dodds. Mrs. Dodds is Percy’s math teacher and also the Fury Alecto, a servant of Hades. Next, Virginia Kull is portraying Percy’s mother, Sally Jackson. Then, Glynn Turman is Chiron the Centaur who trains heroes at Camp Half-Blood. Finally, Timm Sharp is appearing as Gabe Ugliano, Percy’s stepfather.
This is all great news. It is fantastic that the show is finally filming. We could potentially get the first look during D23 later this year. As for the cast, they all seem great. Mantouzaks in particular seems like a good fit for the role of Dionysus. Also, Mullay is a perfect choice to play Mrs. Dodds.
