The Hunger Games franchise was a massive pop-culture phenomenon. The original trilogy of books was massively popular. And the movie adaptations were a huge hit. However, they declined in popularity and quality as they went on. The franchise has been fairly dormant since the last movie released. However, it has been slowly ramping back up with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes film has been in development ever since the book released back in 2020. The novel is set decades before the original trilogy and follows the rise of President Snow during the tenth Hunger Games. Tom Blyth is playing the young Snow in the movie. However, fans have been waiting to know who would be cast in the other lead role of the film. And today, we have finally learned that information.
Rachel Zegler Joins The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
After teasing it last night on Twitter, Rachel Zegler took to Twitter today to confirm her role as Lucy Gray Baird in the The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This was later confirmed by the official Hunger Games Twitter account. You can see both tweets below. Lucy Gray Baird is the female lead of the film and a contestant in the Hunger Games. She is trained and mentored by Snow.
This is a solid casting choice. Zegler has been on the rise for a while now. So while the Hunger Games franchise has been dormant for a while, a rising star like Zegler might be exactly what it needs to get back on its feet. Zegler has been great in everything else so no doubt she will be great in this film. Who knows with nostalgia for the Hunger Games increasing and Zegler on board to star, maybe this film could really be a big hit.
