Star Wars fans are about to feast. The franchise has been in a bit of rough patch lately. Especially, on the movie side of things. But, on the TV side it has really flourished. Star Wars on Disney+ started slowly with The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch. But this year and the next few years are going to have a ton of Star Wars content on Disney+, including Ahsoka, Andor, and The Acolyte.
Earlier this year, we got Book of Boba Fett to start the wave of content. Next, we are getting the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi show. And later this year Andor is arriving. Next year promises even more with Ahsoka and The Mandalorian season 3 expected to hit screens. But there is one project that has been rumored for a long time that has finally been confirmed.
Jon Watts Developing Coming-Of-Age Star Wars Series
Vanity Fair confirmed that Jon Watts is developing a live actions Star Wars show on Disney+. Specifically, Watts will executive produce the series. The series is “a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s”. The show is currently titled Grammar Rodeo and it is set after the events of Return of the Jedi. DiscussingFilm was the first to report on Watts’ connection to the series.
This is really cool news. Firstly, Watts has a great handle on coming-of-age stories. As demonstrated in the MCU Spider-Man trilogy. Secondly, the post Return of The Jedi era is one that is underexplored in Star Wars. Maybe this will explore Luke’s Jedi academy. However, the show is probably something else but, Star Wars has been all about connecting its universe together. So we will probably at least see cameos from famous characters and locations.
