The Doctor Strange sequel is a greatly fast-paced and dense dense film which has to directly follow up on plot threads from multiple past MCU projects. The film also stays true to the Madness in it’s title and involves a lot of multiversal variants and a lot of multiversal hopping in the film, and it sounds like originally there were even more planned.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness originally included 3 Christine Palmer Variants

In an interview with Indiewire, Rachel McAdams revealed how her role as Christine Palmer changed in the film. McAdams said she expected to play three different variants of Christine at first. You can read her full quote below:

It did change a little bit from what I was originally told, [which was] that it would be three different versions, and we wound up with two different versions in the end. But they said I’d be playing a very different version of the Christine Palmer I played in the first film, that I wasn’t an emergency room doctor, just a completely different person with a completely different life experience.

Rachel McAdams on how her role changed in Doctor Strange 2

This isn’t super shocking. MCU films go through a lot of changes as production happens. Doctor Strange 2 underwent more changes than usual. Especially, since it changed both directors and writers. That said, it would have been interesting to see McAdams play another variant of Christine. The new Illuminati variant of Christine Palmer we got in the film was quite instrumental in Doctor Strange’s victory and also his arc in the film of learning to be happy and how to love. While McAdams did have a bigger role in this film, she was still underutilized. But, all things considered she did great in her role and hopefully we see her again in Doctor Strange 3.
