The next Suicide Squad spin-off is on its way. The DCEU stumbled for quite a while, but in the last few years, it has found its way. First, Aquaman was a critical and financial success. Then, Shazam! and Birds of Prey were critical hits. And most recently The Suicide Squad was a huge hit with fans and critics alike.

The Suicide Squad is one of the best comic book movies in recent memory. Directed and written by James Gunn; the movie had heart and humor and was just a good movie overall. Fans were excited to learn that it would get a spin-off about John Cena’s Peacemaker. Peacemaker was also written and directed by Gunn. Unsurprisingly, Peacemaker was hit (read our review here) but fans were left wanting even more from James Gunn and his vision. Thankfully, James Gunn confirmed that he was working on another spin-off show. However, details about that show have been kept under lock and key. But, now we know at least one star who will be in the show.

Viola Davis Returns For The Suicide Squad Spin-Off

Deadline is reporting that Viola Davis is currently in talks to star as Amanda Waller in a The Suicide Squad spin-off. The spinoff will premiere on HBOMax. Davis will also executive produce the series. Chris Henry, who wrote for the Watchmen series, will write and produce the series. James Gunn will also be executive producing the series.

This is the second spin-off of The Suicide Squad. The first spin-off, Peacemaker, released earlier this year to great reviews.

The news is a bit of a surprise. We have known for a while that James Gunn was planning a second spin-off for The Suicide Squad, but fans expected it to center around one of the other Squad members. However, it makes sense that it would center around Amanda Waller. Especially when taking into account how Peacemaker season 1 ended. Waller will want to take matters into her own hands after her operations with the Suicide Squad were exposed. Also, it’s very possible the series will not be about Amanda Waller, but she will have a major role in the show.
