Sony has fumbled the bag when it comes to Spider-Man. Full stop. They’ve produced 5 Spider-Man films separate of Marvel Studios. 3 of those were poorly critically received. In the 3 live-action spinoffs they’ve produced since then, all have been slammed by reviews. They have Kraven the Hunter, Venom 3, Madame Web, and the recently announced El Muerto all in development. For what reason, well, no one really knows. However, they’ve done well on the animation side of things.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was an immediate hit when it debuted in theaters. Immediate. The film received widespread critical acclaim, and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. It launched on Netflix to subscribers’ delight, and ever since release, fans have been at Sony’s neck begging for a sequel. Well, Sony announced two. One received its title in December 2021, and the other just did at CinemaCon.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Sequel Receives Title
At their CinemaCon 2022 panel, Sony announced that Part II would be officially titled Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. The two films were originally a two-parter, similar to Avengers: Infinity War (originally Part I) and Avengers: Endgame (originally Part II). However, again similar to the aforementioned films, they split from the “Part” designation. Instead, they each received their own titles.
This title is great. The thing that makes the Spider-Verse trilogy so appealing is its reach to all audiences. Beyond, Across, and Into all have similar titles, but all reportedly have much different feels. It’s exciting to see where Sony will go with the finale to the trilogy. However, we don’t even have the second film yet. The films are slated to drop roughly 10 months apart.
