When Disney+ premiered its first live action Star Wars series The Mandalorian in 2019, it wowed fans and critics alike. The show breathed new life into the franchise, and introduced us to a new post-Empire world. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s series created a journey for the new character of Din Djarin, the aforementioned Mandalorian. His adventurous quests were very familiar in tone but also felt brand new.
The series introduced us to many fresh faces along the main characters journey. These characters were very much connected to the Star Wars mythos. Moff Gideon was one of those characters. Moff Gideon was a major part of the Empire and had a close connection to both Mandalore and the Jedi. Which was explored further in Season 2. Now, the star himself has revealed intriguing information about Season 3’s release.
Giancarlo Esposito Says The Mandalorian Season 3 Will Premiere This Summer
Recently, Giancarlo Esposito was interviewed on The Rich Eisen Show and asked about The Mandalorian Season 3 and its premiere. To which he alluded that he had things he need to finish up, but we will “get it soon”, possibly as early as this summer:
You’ll get it soon. I got a few things in regard to that to do to put some finishing touches on what I do, but I believe it’ll be sometime this summer. No date set yet, but coming soon.Giancarlo Esposito on the release of The Mandalorian Season 3
He also discussed how he came to be cast as Moff Gideon and that the role was created “specifically” for him and the one caveat he had for taking the role:
Oh my goodness, Jon Favreau called me, said ‘I have good news and bad news.’ I said ‘What’s the good news?’ and he said ‘I wrote a role for you in Mandalorian, specifically for you.’ And I said ‘Wow, fantastic, what’s the bad news?’ ‘The bad news is all the money’s going on the screen.’ And I said ‘Is there more good news?’
And he said to me ‘Disney’s doing it.’ Wow, I have nothing but great things to say about this studio, about this franchise, in regard to how they have enlightened our children to mythology and to what’s right and how to go about doing what’s right, how to be in service, the Mandalorian service… and they have waited for me with such wonderful love and respect for me to come back and do what I do and love to do, so this is a great show. You say ‘yes,’ and then you say ‘I’ve got one caveat, Jon.’ And he’s like ‘Oh, what’s that?’ I said ‘I must have a cape.’Giancarlo Esposito on getting the role of Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian
Mando 3 This Summer?
The fact that Esposito is saying that Season 3 could be out as early as this summer is very interesting and sure to have Star Wars fans speculating. This summer for a release of The Mandalorian Season 3 seems a bit soon, especially if it’s unfinished. Disney Plus also has a full slate of shows premiering over the rest of the year.
