Lightyear is ready to blast off. The company behind the beloved animated films Up and Inside Out are no stranger to Cannes International Film Festival. The aforementioned movies both opened at Cannes in their respective years and both went on to be box office hits as well as Academy Award winners.

Pixar’s latest film Lightyear is a highly anticipated origin story of Buzz Lightyear. However, it’s a person, not the toy that we know. His adventures will be those that seemingly inspired the toy figure from the Toy Story films. The toy version of Buzz was originally voiced by Tim Allen. This time around, the man who inspired that action figure will be voiced by Captain America actor Chris Evans. Evans is joined by a stellar cast including Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, James Brolin and more.

Lightyear To Debut At Cannes Film Festival

Variety has released a list of its predictions for films that will Cannes Film Festival. Among their predictions are a mystery David Lynch film, the Baz Luhrmann-helmed Elvis, and the long awaited sequel Top Gun: Maverick. And, of course, Lightyear. This will be the third Pixar film to premiere at Cannes if it is selected. And, with their last two films success, this could mean a big return for Pixar.

The buzz for Lightyear has been relatively quiet, especially next to other Disney properties that are getting ready to be released. Whether this film does premiere at Cannes or not, it could be a sleeper hit this year. Lightyear will be Pixar’s first theatrical release in the U.S. since Soul in 2020. It will be interesting to see how the film does in the box office this summer.
