Blade: Delroy Lindo Joins Marvel’s Vampire Epic

Fans of horror, supernatural films, and Marvel Studios, you’re gonna love this Blade news.

Blade has been a very popular Marvel property. 3 movies starring Wesley Snipes as the vampire hunter released around the turn of the millennium, and several reboots have been floated as ideas when other studios owned the rights to the character.

Now, those rights have reverted to Marvel Studios, and at Comic-Con 2019, it was announced that Marvel Studios was in active development of a Blade film, with Mahershala Ali set to star in the title role. Stacy Osei-Kuffour was attached as writer, and Bassam Tariq announced as director. Now, we have our first casting outside of Ali’s.

DELROY LINDO SIGNS ON FOR BLADE

The Harder They Fall star Delroy Lindo is in final negotiations to star in Marvel Studios’ BladeThe Hollywood Reporter revealed Friday. When reached for comment, representatives from Marvel Studios and Disney did not respond.

The film is currently set to begin filming in July 2022, supposedly at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, where almost every Marvel Studios project has been at least partially shot since 2015’s Ant-Man. Mahershala Ali’s vampire hunter was first introduced in the post-credits scene of Eternals, where he had a voice-over when he communicated with Dane Whitman (AKA Black Knight) about the Ebony Blade.

Blade looks to be a VERY interesting film, as it will expand on the horror/supernatural element of the MCU, a corner which has been barely explored, but will soon be with 2022’s Moon Knight, the upcoming Marvel Studios’ Halloween Special, and of course, this latest addition. No release date has been set yet, but with cameras set to roll in July 2022, it wouldn’t be a long shot to guess that the vampire hunter’s first solo outing in the MCU could release in Marvel’s November 2023 slot, or February 2024.

It’s also unknown what the plot will revolve around, hardly any details are known at this time, but one speculated villain is Dracula. As Blade is a vampire hunter, and Dracula is a vampire, it makes perfect sense.
